It’s Mellowflavorartist once again with mellow vibes for fathers!

Last month, I wrote an article about mothers’ day and shared a brief version of a letter I penned to a mother I never knew. Well, this article is attempting to honour fathers on this Fathers’ Day! As I would have expressed some time and place before, fathers tend not to receive the accolades mothers receive. Some are marginalized, forgotten, overlooked and even ostracized from some families. Whatever the reason, whatever the situation, I am simply the bearer of the good news today that there are so many fathers out there unbelievably worthy of our praise. So without further adieu, here is the full version of a tribute I wrote to fathers in my book “Poet Soul: Moving Gracefully to A Fresh Beat”. This book can be obtained from Amazon.com or Amazon.ca. But more importantly, for this moment as the words speak to your soul, I trust that they will assist you in placing your father and father-figures on the pedestal they so deserve!

Often it’s said men will be men
Boys will be boys
Men play with women
Boys play with toys
Some men, dubbed immature
Some without dough, refused entry
At the door.

So many overlooked
Oblivious that men too
wash, clean and cook
The main breadwinners
See to the bills, grappling with
Life’s challenges and ills, struggling
Desperately to make ends meet

Today a meal of success
Tomorrow crumbs of defeat
With self-esteem, they grapple
Emasculated, they cringe
To them how much credit given
To them how much leverage
Their humanity kicked to the curb

Their depth of grief would befuddle you
As broke as women in travail
They could just die
But suppressing the load
Because big boys don’t cry

Yes, wake up smell the coffee, cocoa or tea
The good in these boys we refuse to see
The good ones out there
To their children offering love and care

So let’s stop criticizing
Refrain from generalizing
So many boys merit our praise
Let’s shower them with love and
Smother them with deserved accolades

Boys 2 men
In our homes, in our churches
Attesting to the good caregivers they are
Let’s give to Caesar what’s duly his
Let’s hear it for our boys—let’s add our Words of Cheer

Happy Fathers’ Day! Do enjoy!
I can’t wait to get your feedback on this one. Talk to you soon!
